Aunt Archie’s Buckeyes {Holiday Cookie Swap}

This is a joint effort guest post by the famous “aunt” I always talk about in my posts. She sent me the story and recipe, and I made the buckeyes and took the pictures.

Aunt Archie used to make peanut butter & chocolate balls every Christmas season that are called Buckeyes. The story behind Aunt Archie’s buckeyes is that we never knew how many she made. We believe it was hundreds, possibly even thousands of buckeyes. She never made a single batch, it was always a double, and she would constantly make new batches as they seemed to disappear quickly. She would put them in a Macy’s shirt box and hide them underneath her bed, but at the time none of us knew where they were. Sometimes after dinner during the holiday season, she would pull out the mysterious box of buckeyes, share her incredible smile and loving wink and let you have a buckeye or two. She made you feel like you were getting the most amazing holiday treat ever.

(Double, triple, or quadruple and bring out the inner Aunt Archie!)

1 stick margarine or butter (1/2 cup)

1 box powdered sugar (4 cups)

1 1/2 cups peanut butter

1 teaspoon vanilla

12 oz. chocolate chips

Mix the first four ingredients together. Roll into 1 inch balls. Melt the chocolate chips over a double boiler and dip the balls 1/2 way down into the chocolate. Put them in the refrigerator to harden.

My holiday helper!

Thanks to my Aunt Mary Ann and my Great Aunt Archie for another great holiday treat!

    1. I agree haven’t played a good game of charades in years. Good times were had by all. I wish you a box of buckeyes for Christmas underneath your bed.

  3. Done! Made them today. I think they will last a week in the fridge, tightly wrapped. if Joe doesn’t get to them first…
