Ice Cream Snowballs

We are finally making our way to the Swiss Alps in Zermatt this weekend. I’m really excited and really nervous. If I knew I would be knitting in the lodge the whole weekend, I could just be excited. But people keep telling me that I need to try this whole skiing thing since we live in Switzerland bla bla bla. I’ll let you in on a not-so-secret secret: skiing freaks me out.

I have skiied a handful of times, but I can’t say that I’ve ever enjoyed it. I get these visions of falling off the edge of the mountain and it just takes all the fun out of it. Let’s not forget my fear of anything where I am not on my own two feet (biking, rollerblading, ice skating) and things get interesting. At my past job, I was always the cool, calm, and collected one in stressful situations, but if anyone of them saw me on the ski slopes, they would see my true colors flying high.

Since I do have a desire to enjoy snow skiing one day, I think I’m going to try it again. I’m hoping to take a morning ski lesson and be sipping on hot cocoa in the lodge by the afternoon. Maybe if it snows this weekend, the powder will help pad my falls. But if it doesn’t, I’ll rely on these guys to help me forget about my skiing woes.

  1. We are so on the same page when it comes to adventure. Parasailing, skydiving, anything that you have no control over…sign me up. Anything where I’m in charge and can screw up…no thank you. Just master the pizza and you’ll be good to go.

  2. Not to sound like all those people pestering you, but you MUST go skiing in the Swiss Alps! It’s like skiing mecca! I still get a little scared skiing too. Especially when people zoom past me super fast. “Don’t crash in to me! *Cringe*!” That’s why I started wearing a helmet. Gives me a little more piece of mind. Please put up lots of pictures this weekend when you’re in Zermatt! So exciting!

    1. well I did end up going and it was pretty darn fun 🙂 I’m glad I did! In Switzerland, everyone wears a helmet which I think is great. A couple times i hit my head while carrying my skis, so I’m happy I had my helmet on!!

  3. I love the grandma theme to this post and the last, two things you find with gram over winter holidays: soup and snow balls!
