For whatever reason, I have always liked to have place cards at my Thanksgiving table (you may have noticed here and here). I just love the personal touch they provide, giving each guest a little sense of coziness of comfort when they find their name at the table.
Well, maybe they don’t provoke such fuzzy feelings as I hope they do, but a silly turkey head will put a smile on anyone’s face! I’ve made place cards several times now for whichever Thanksgiving I’m attending, and this year is no different. We will be staying in Zurich this year, and though we don’t get the day off (well, the working folk don’t), we will still be celebrating with fellow American friends.
And nothing says Thanksgiving like a little Turkey with some colorful feathers (inspired by these guys).
And let me tell you, these turkeys are a lot cheaper than buying a turkey in Zurich. But let’s just forget about that for a bit, and focus on more important things, like this craft project.
These would probably be fun to make with your kids, but I don’t have any, so I made them in front of the TV. Cut a head, a beak, a snood (who knew?), and some feathers out of scrap paper. Glue the feathers on a wine cork.
Tape the turkey head on a toothpick and stick it in the cork.
And I present: Turkey Wine Cork Place Cards.
Fun, right?
Your turkey dinner will be well accompanied.

Oh my goodness, these are just the cutest! And the perfect excuse to drink a lot more wine before Thanksgiving so I have enough corks. 🙂 Thanks for this adorable idea!
Like you need an excuse to drink more wine 🙂 Thanks! Enjoy the wine drinking and the place cards!
These are so cute! Great way to use up wine corks. I love this!
I love how cute these are! I have some wine to drink between now and Thanksgiving, I guess! 🙂 I hope your Zurich friendsgiving is still just as warm and cozy as your SF ones!
Yes, yes you do 🙂 Thanks Sarah! Hope you have a great Turkey day as well.
I’ll be making your adorable place cards for Thanksgiving. Since part of my family is celebrating with you, having the same place cards is a small gesture to connect us all on a day of thanks. One of the things I am thankful for this year is you. You have been so helpful to those near and dear to me that have moved to your new city. Here’s to friendships that have blossomed in Zurich!
