Today, I’m going to repeat some wise words that were recently sent to me from a friend, via a simply genius meme.
HOW TO GET A BIKINI BODY
Step 1: Put a bikini on your body.
Step 2: Stop giving a sh*t about what other people think.
Sounds so simple right? But it’s obviously easier said than done.
I will admit that I gave way too many sh*ts what people thought about my bikini body. Which lead me to repeatedly torture myself through the annual pre-summer diet. I remember back in senior year of college, I was headed to Mexico for spring break so I had to get beach body ready. I made myself a physical food calorie-counting journal. I knew the calorie count of every single food item, so there was no need for an online program (how sad is that?). On the cover, I pasted a photo of a bikini model, perfectly tanned and toned. That was supposed to be my #fitspiration obviously. Little did I know, it was making me feel worse about myself on a daily basis, which didn’t help anything.
So I counted my calories, wrote the good days in my journal, conveniently “forgot” to write in the bad days, and sure, I lost a few pounds. I was feeling pretty good heading into my final spring break fiesta, but still disappointed I didn’t have better willpower to get more weight off.
Unsurprisingly, after weeks of restriction (+ being a college student), I stuffed my face with tacos, cerveza, some more tacos, margaritas, late night nachos, and some more cerveza.
Also unsurprisingly, I came back from the trip feeling gross. I gained back all the weight I’d lost, plus some, and had to start the diet all over again before graduation and summer vacation.
I was officially on the never-ending diet cycle.
If you can you relate, you know that it’s THE WORST.
And you know what the worst part is?
If I’d known then what I know now, I could have enjoyed my food more every single day, been happy with my body, not restricted a thing, AND not come back from vacation feeling gross (well, maybe a little gross because it was college spring break after all).
I’m writing today to tell you that you CAN feel amazing in your swimsuit this summer without having to diet. You CAN start loving your body and yourself at any shape or size. You CAN eat whatever you want, whenever you want, and feel like the best version of yourself. And you CAN eat your favorite foods, any freakin’ day of the year.
I have a few words of wisdom to start you on your bikini wearing way:
Stop comparing yourself.
Unfollow people on social media that make you feel bad about your body.
Follow people that inspire you in all aspects of life.
Start telling yourself that your body is beautiful as is, every single day, until you start believing it.
Buy a swimsuit that makes you feel great.
Don’t buy a cheap swimsuit in your bigger size because you are saving up to buy a really nice one when you are skinnier. Go out and get a beautiful patterned suit, one that flatters those curves, and makes you happy. Get excited to put that swimsuit on and get yourself to the pool or beach ASAP. Grab that beautiful floppy hat, stylish sunglasses, and gorgeous cover-up while you are at it.
Stop the dieting today.
Make this year the year you change your food and body relationship for good. One more diet before swimsuit season is not going to help. Having a good relationship with food and your body, one that involves eating the foods that feel good to your body and soul, will help. Plus, it will allow you to never have to think about a summer diet again.

Terrific words of wisdom!
This post made me smile, Caitlin ?
I have seen the “How to get a beach body – Have a body, go to the beach” meme going around.
Maybe failing at a diet isn’t only about body image but your entire self-worth. I’m sure you do great work in your consulting!
