Since our dinner club has dwindled to three members and one of them is an accountant, busy season takes a toll on our Thursday night dinners. Miss Accountant was able to slip away tonight and we went to Umami Burger on Union Street. I have heard nothing but good things about this place so I had been dying to try it. That’s pretty much the basis of all Thursday night dinners, so apologies in advance if that sentence is in every future TND post.
We got seated quickly since we got there on the early side. They had a decent selection of wine and beers to start. The special of the night was that you could get 3 sliders of any 3 beef burgers they had on the menu. Try three burgers for the price of one? Sold.
We started with their famous “truffle fries” and the brown sugar sweet potato fries. My god the truffle fries were amazing. The sweet potato fries were fine, but I’d suggest getting a double order of the truffle fries instead. Trust me on this one.
And now for the burgers. I got the Umami, Cali, and Truffle beef sliders.
The girls got the same as me but swapped in the Manly Burger for the Cali Burger. Onions, bacon, and beer-cheddar cheese. They both said it ranked #1 on their burger scale.
The Umami was my favorite. It had shitake mushrooms, a parmesan crisp, carmelized onions, roasted tomato, and umami ketchup.
Next was the truffle burger. I loved the truffle cheese, but it was a little on the plain side. It tasted better on french fries than on meat 🙂
The Cali burger had tomatoes, onion, ketchup, lettuce, and american cheese. To say it was my least favorite doesn’t do it justice since it was still yummy. But, I know when something is my least favorite because I eat it first. You gotta save the best for last…even though I was stuffed by the time I got to the Umami burger. But I still managed to finish every last bite.
I would go back to Umami Burger in a heartbeat. I got the beef sliders since you could try 3 different kinds, but next time I want to try some of their non-beef options. I’m imagining the scallop, veggie, and turkey burgers are pretty darn delicious as well. Oh and the people next to us ordered the Humphrey Slocombe ice cream sandwiches for dessert. I mean, I don’t know if they compare to my mint cookie sanwiches but they did look tasty.
I have a feeling I will be dreaming of truffle fries until the next Thursday night dinner.
