THREE TIPS FROM FRENCH HENS
The French are known for practicing many admirable healthy living techniques that are worth discussing. There is a long list, but I will leave you with three things that you might want to adapt this month.
- Walk more and take the stairs. Simple movement can be added in to your everyday life. Walking instead of taking the car, getting off one stop early from the bus/tram/train, taking the stairs instead of the elevator. Face the facts; you won’t be frequenting the gym or your yoga classes as much as you’d like this month, so do simple things throughout the day to stay active.
- Enjoy your food to the fullest. Let’s talk holiday desserts. They will be around, no matter how much you try to ignore them. Don’t restrict yourself around the treats. Let yourself have one when you really want it. And when you do have one, don’t grab the cookie while passing by the kitchen and eat it on the way back to your desk. Instead, make yourself a coffee or tea to go with that cookie, bring it back to your desk (or better yet, sit down in the break room), and enjoy that cookie. Taking the time to enjoy the holiday indulgences will leave you feeling more satisfied and less likely to eat five of them! No need for restriction, just eat holiday treats consciously and make it memorable.
- Compensate. French meals are known to be full fat and grandiose, starting with champagne, followed by a coursed meal paired with wine, and finishing with cheese. But what you probably don’t realize is that the other meal of their day is a simple salad or vegetable soup. So when you know you have a holiday dinner, eat something healthy and full of veggies for lunch. Simple enough, right?
